Christmas is a big event because the United States has a Christian culture. Americans buy gifts for others at Christmas and take time out from their busy lives to attend Christmas services. Parents work with their children to create Christmas trees and decorate them in and out of the house with decorations. The family sits in front of the fireplace and, with their Christmas stories deep into the night, churches and choir members call carols as they visit each family around the time of Christmas. At this time, people who do not attend church also call carols. At home, parents wrap gifts for their children and put them in socks.
Finland, dubbed the "Land of Christmas," is a big event where children wait all year round, with the town of Santa Claus.
